130 people from Birmingham, Coventry, Stoke, Rugby, Cannock, Chelmsley Wood, Tamworth and Telford came together during spring 2022 to learn to tap dance, whilst also listening to each other’s stories and experiences.
Included in this figure were 17 participants representing Cannock Chase, who took part in 12 weeks of tap-dancing rehearsals at Chase Leisure Centre leading up to the performance. The adults had additional needs and came from support services in the area.
On 18 June 2022, all groups came together, to take to the streets of Brindleyplace, Birmingham, for the city’s biggest outdoor tap lesson and mass ‘shim sham’, a dance known as the national anthem of tap.
The group had an amazing experience, and their performance can be see at:The Live Show – Tappin’ In (tappinin2022.com)
