The underpass at Mill Street and Beecroft act as the pedestrian entry points into Cannock town centre and were in desperate need of repair and a makeover. Their appearance provided people with the feeling of being unsafe. Rejeuvinating the spaces needed a re-tile, and provided over a 150 artists from the district to be involved. Amateur and traditional styles to professional and contemporary images were applied to the surface of the tiles, resulting in a trompe d’oeil effect gallery space! Community ownership has enabled the underpass to be used more by all, reducing any negative usage of the space.
Cannock Chase Council Communications engaged our service as a joint lead an to source an appropriate organisation specialist in surface design. Together we oversaw everything from developing concept to project management, including bringing the project in budget and on time.
