Military Collection

The Impact of War

The Military Collection explores the impact of war on service personnel and civilian life, focusing particularly on the First and Second World Wars.

It includes medals, uniforms, personal items, and documents that tell the stories of local people who served and, in many cases, gave their lives for their country. The collection also covers the vital local civilian efforts, life on the home front, as well as objects related to prisoners of war, both locally interred on the Chase and those held abroad.

Training Camps

Cannock Chase was home to two major training camps in the First World War, and RAF Hednesford in the Second World War. These sites are represented in our collection through photographs, ephemera, and oral histories that bring the area’s military history to life.
