The 1980s heralded in a new era of space activity. The development of the Space Shuttle with its aim of making access to space cheaper and to be the workhorse of the proposed International Space Station. Voyager 2 spacecraft arrived at Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; the Russians explored Venus. This New Wave of space activity was set against the backdrop of the cold war, and a new wave in music.
