Granuaile – The Grace O’Malley Story - Told by author and storyteller Niamh Mahon

Niamh Mahon as Grace O’Malley, also known as Granuaile, narrates her life story as a powerful Irish sea leader who ruled the west coast of Connaught and the Atlantic. Despite being omitted from traditional Irish history due to her defiance of societal norms, her legacy survives through folk stories and British records, though their authenticity is uncertain. The narrative reflects on her adventurous life, challenges, and possible causes of her death while setting the scene of her homeland and maritime domain.

Niamh Mahon is a versatile creative whose passion for storytelling shines through her work across stage, festivals, television and film. With experience in writing plays, directing, costume design and stage management, she has also taken the initiative to establish a fringe festival.

Drawing from her Irish heritage, theatre training, and a wealth of life experiences, Niamh has cultivated a rich imagination brimming with stories, both heard and invented. Inspired by the legends she has cherished since childhood; she retells a selection of Irish myths and other stories, that spark the imagination of the listener.
