Chase Tales Trail

The Chase Heritage Trail weaves together the rich history and landscapes of Cannock Chase, linking the towns of Cannock, Hednesford, and Rugeley through ten miles of pathways steeped in story.

Following the route, visitors trace the footsteps of those who shaped this remarkable area — from the early industries that once defined its communities to the enduring natural beauty that continues to inspire them. The trail connects key heritage landmarks, including The Great War Hut, Hednesford Hills, and sites that echo the region’s mining and military past.

Each section of the trail offers a window into the life and legacy of the Chase — its people, its places, and its ever-changing landscape. Interpretive panels and local artworks bring these stories to life, celebrating both the resilience of the land and the creativity of its communities.

Along the trail, QR codes enhance the experience in two ways. Visitors can explore animated interpretations that bring the Chase’s history to life visually, or they can follow the “Hear Our Heritage” audio trail, which provides narrated versions of the interpretation panels to listen to as they walk. These digital features make the trail an engaging, multi-sensory journey, blending traditional heritage with modern storytelling.

More than a walking route, the Chase Heritage Trail is a living record of the area’s identity — a reminder of how the past continues to shape the present across the heart of Cannock Chase.
