It is 1899 in the crypt of St Luke’s Church, Cannock, Dr Abraham van Helsing has been hired by Cannock Councilors to rid the town of a Vampyre. The Vampyre in question is Lydia Brockhouse,. She was baptized on the 18th December 1746 at St Luke’s Church, Cannock.. She married John Ferguson on the 31st October 1769. She died under mysterious circumstances on the 7th December 1784. Although pronounced dead residents of Cannock have reported seeing her walking the dark streets at night. Only one man can rid Cannock of its vampyre.
The name Van Helsing is naturally associated with the late great Peter Cushing from those wonderful Hammer Horror films. His latest movie incarnation is somewhat more comic book than gothic novel. In Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, the character of Abraham Van Helsing is complicated, troubled, and tortured by his beliefs.
Andrew brings to life Bram Stoker’s character as has never before been seen. We join him as he is about to dispatch another member of the undead at the venue in which the presentation is given. Van Helsing explains to the audience his work, however, he is so taken by the audience he forgets the time, and the vampire awakens.
A morality play as Van Helsing has to confront the Vampire and argue his position as a vampire hunter. The audience may have to confront some home truths of their lives.
All of Andrew’s presentations bring the story right back to Staffordshire, with local links, Staffordshire people or other connections to the county revealed.
