Eclectica are eight textile artists in the Midlands - working independently to create original contemporary textile art, using an eclectic mix of scale, technique, materials and inspiration, with an eye to sustainability.
Traditionally cloth and thread were valuable commodities treated with respect. Dyeing, weaving, stitching, making, all take time and effort and it is natural to look after the finished product. Clothes were frequently unpicked and re-fashioned; yarn and ribbon reused; precious fabric scraps made into patchwork bedcovers; rips and tears carefully mended. As textile artists, we are inspired by new and traditional methods and materials; calm slow repetition of stitching; the thrill of discovery and an enthusiasm for new ideas - delight in a job well done.
