1940s Room

Peep through the window and step back in time to the 1940s.

It’s wartime, so the windows are taped up to prevent flying glass when the bombs fall. The enamel fireplace, once located in Chadsmoor, is the centrepiece of this cosy living room. At the back, we have a dolls house made entirely from salvaged materials, and the sewing machine is in the corner, ready to Make Do and Mend. The piano is ready to play some rousing wartime tunes, whilst the radio in the corner is the way to keep up with the news.

This room is open for visitors on event days and is used for our school visits, when children can go inside with a museum educator and learn more about life during World War II.
